Dear Monique and Teun
Thank you for introducing LensCulture to this surreal and beautiful series Silence.
I am very impressed by your consistency of approach and your ability to
keep the viewer interested from image to image while using the same formula.
Often digital manipulation resorts to gimmickry and gets tedious and
inauthentic, but I believe that each one of your compositions cab stand
by itself as well ascontribute to the whole.
The photographs are so open to a myriad of interpretations that you
allow your audience to participate with their imagination.
Mostly these layered images speak to me of opposing states that coexist
and meld perfectly: the mental with the physical, the past with the present
and future, the tangible with the unearthly, motion with stillness.
They are fluid as wel as solid, very evocative all in all.
Technically the work is strong and vibrant, I would hope to see these
printed very large. The background palette seems to be derived from
the content within the model, sothe two match nicely. The more detailed
realism of the background works very well as hair for the model.
The leaf acts as a mask and is brilliantly submerged into the head.
The whole is three dimensional and convincing, yet despite its realistic nature
it is still very abstract.
Finally I think it is interesting that you are two people, that you have found
a union between your creative styles.
